Out of the Dust by Karen Hesse

This Newbery award-winning novel in poems is beautifully written. The novel is about a girl, Billie Jo, during the dust bowl. After a terrible tragedy, Billie Jo’s only sense of belonging is playing the piano.  During the story Billie Jo wants to get “out of the dust”. I was recommended this book by my teacher, the first time I started this book I stopped reading the book halfway through because I didn’t read it straight through. But the second time I tried to read the book, I finished it in one or two days. I know you will enjoy this!!!!!
